In case you don't live on Drudge and don't already know this, check out what Cameron Diaz did. She's touring around Peru, looking at the Machu Pichhu ruins, wearing a totebag with a red Chinese star and the Mao Zedong's most famous slogan, "Serve the People."

Nice job, asshat! Very nice work there, managing to somehow not have a fucking clue. THIS is why you should be required to have a higher education if you're going to be famous. First of all, it's not cute to glamorize the goddamn red commie Chinese star. It's neither ironic, interesting, piquant, progressive, nor profound. Remember dear, communism is responsible for over a hundred million deaths in the last century, and Mao Zedong was in charge of about half of those. So frankly, the whole idea of a commie star and a Maoist phrase is fucked up in ANY circumstance.
But in Peru? PERU?!?! Absolutely brilliant. They're not gonna be sensitive about Maoist propaganda or anything, it's not like 70,000 people died.
I always knew Cameron Diaz was a fuckin' moron. A few years ago, I saw her on Oprah and she was yapping about her recent trip to Africa. I hate Oprah but I kinda would have loved her if she'd punched Diaz in the mouth that day. She was literally saying things such as, "It was SO awesome. We were out in the middle of nowhere and it was SO quiet, like, totally quiet. And like, I realized, like, people LIVE here. They do not HAVE the things we, like, have. It like totally makes all my problems seem so, like, NOT problems, ya know? Ya know? HA HA HA HA! Like, I was just so grateful for my, like, LIFE." Wow, like ohmygod, she is so Socially Aware.
Hey I have an idea for her next trip to, say, Eastern Europe. She should tour Poland carrying a tote bag with the words "Arbeit Macht Frei" under a cute little swastika. It would be, like, totally fashionable.

and she's Cuban. You'd think she'd understand about communism in general....

For people with the attention span of a may-fly, the whole Shining Path business is as remote as Kaiser Bill. Rant, fume, mutter...

And she probably won't even get what the fuss is about, even if her handlers or body guards or personal assistants clue her in on the gaffe. It's the same mentality of those who wear Che Guevara tee shirts.
The scary thing would be if she even tries to speak intelligently on the subject. The thought makes me cringe.

I am gonna guess Cameron's take on the "Arbeit Macht Frei" handbag is gonna go kinda like this:
"Swatzstickerz thats fer (cuz we don't say fur, fur is bad) like them Notzeez idn't it? They were like um, bad peeps, not um like the Commie Red Chinese fer sure. I mean what German place can I like order dumplings from 24/7..duh??? I mean amirite? Fer sure!"
Rachel, you have to cut the girl a lil slack. She has eaten her surfboard and broken her nose so many times by now there has to be some modicum of brain damage present. At least she has a somewhat legitmate excuse for her stupidity. I just chalk her up as belonging in the same category as many other starlets; "Pretty to look at till they open their pieholes". Jane Fonda is and always will be the reigning Queen of that particular category.
I mean at least Cameron is somewhat pretty (in a goofy kind of way), not like that Sarah Jessica Barker. I mean yikes, who did she sleep with to get famous with that trumpet between her eyes? I still haven't figured that one out.
Have fun ;)!

You ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow..."
Well, except Justin Timberlake (or am I way out of the loop on this one? I hope so).

Imagine a Japanese fellow sporting a briefcase that reads....
"Pearl Harbor! Whatta hoot for us. Too bad for you, Yankees. Ha!"
He's walking down Mainstreet U.S.A.
By the time he gets to the street corner, that briefcase is lodged in his colon and he's spitting teeth through broken jaws.
So how come an idiot like Moron Diaz isn't smacked upside her empty melon-shaped head by the natives?
They run out of shovels?
They star-struck?
Are her "assistants"---Scotty, Justin, and Jorge---decked out in Birkies and purple scarves---real scary to the campesinos?
It ought to be perfectly clear by now that the average IQ of leftist "entertainers" (Rosie O'Blowme, Shawn Pinhead) is at least 15 points below that of conservative entertainers---Bruce Willis, Dennis Miller, Ron Silver.

I'd totally carry a bag with a red star on it (though not there).
But I'd do it to mock Communism's defeat by Capitalist Democracy.
(Just like my ridiculous Soviet Lenin pin! Like someone on Samizdata said; they don't have to be idols, they can be trophies, like heads on pikes.)

The locals' take on these things tends to be a lot more humorous. My ex brought me back a T-shirt from Moscow with Lenin's melon on it, with the McDonald's arches superimposed on him. The slogan on the back was "The Party's over!"
I wish I still fit into it.

Lance...that's funny!
I'm actually reading a great book about Che ... and have started another one about Mao. It just boggles my mind that people are so dumb. They really are useful idiots.
Why do they believe that these monsters are any better or more socially acceptable than walking around with a Swastika or Hitler on a shirt? *sigh* So braindead.
And schools don't help matters since they don't teach any history except that which makes the US look bad.

I'm told (meaning, I'm not sure if this is true or not) that Japanese tourists who vacation in Hawaii like to take smiling photographs in front of the Pearl Harbor memorial.

I am gonna confess I have no clue who Che Cerveza is (I still don't and funny thing is, I still don't care either), but I have seen the T-Shirt many times. I just always figured it was a picture of a young Fidel Castro, and even then I never got what the appeal of him a T-Shirt would be. I mean he is no Jerry Garcia. Quite frankly I still don't get it, but then I don't see what the appeal of "Crocs" are either, for that matter.
I mean let's be honest, it was Gorby (No I can't spell his proper name, and don't care to look it up) with that wine stained cranium of his, who made it hip to celebrate Communism. Forget about all those other posers. They are just Gorby wannabe's. But didn't that party like end a decade ago? I seem to recall reading something about a wall coming down and statues being toppled a while back. I could be mistaken of course, because let's face it, I just can't be bothered to check.
Have fun ;)!

Che CERVESA? Brian that is too good. I will have to have one (a cervesa, that is) in honor of that little play on words. Maybe after Fidel is dead and gone all these clueless yahoos will take to wearing his likeness on t-shirts as well. Ought to be real popular in areas like "Little Havana" in Miami.
