You already know my theory about this.

Cats are assholes, that’s what. But even I must admit that when they’re in kitten form and thus so cute you want to put them in a bowl, sprinkle sugar on them, and then eat them with a spoon to prove your infatuation, it’s a mite hard to call them such names. Even when they totally earn it:

That’s my sister-in-law’s hand yesterday.
There’s a stray female cat in the neighborhood, who has recently had at least her second litter (the first that we know of was 9 months ago, two kittens from which my brother and sister-in-law adopted and who were featured here. Frank ‘n’ Beans!). She had this litter between the fences in Rick and SIL’s back yard, and for a while, they’ve been watching the cute little tykes grow and play. Three of them, all feral like their mama.
Rick and SIL intend to catch the mother and take her in to be spayed, and then set her free again because she’s too wild for anyone to adopt. A real mean bitch I tell you. But first they had to wait for the kittens to be weaned so they could catch them and find them homes, which process they began yesterday with some strategically-placed food and cat carriers. Long story short, when they attempted to actually handle the kittens to put them in the house and start taming them, the kittens kinda lost their shit. Rick has a nasty bite on his finger and SIL, as you can see above, was treated very poorly indeed. It looks a lot worse in person, too, and that’s only one side of her hand; the back is all jacked up as well and SIL basically looks like an emo cutter right now.
That’s my version of the story, anyway. Truth is, Rick and SIL are the biggest Cat People you could ever meet and as I’ve said before, their home is kitteh paradise. They had seven at one time, four now, and they understand the perils and pitfalls of trying to home and tame feral cats. THEY don’t hold their wounds against the kittens because THEY accept that wild animals only act like that to protect themselves.
I, on the other hand, spent a few hours at their house yesterday and loudly announced, “Cats are assholes” at least 47 times. I think my sister, who was also there and is also a cat lover, was considering punching me in the face.
I also helpfully offered to “adopt” the kittens to be “playmates” for Maggie and Sunny. If you know what I mean and I think you do. (Don’t get mad, I didn’t mean it, in fact I came home and told Rupert that I WANT A KITTEN! Can I get a kitten in England? Kittennnnnn?!?!??)
Anyway, before I left, I made SIL promise to take a picture of the cute little shits and she did, which made me coo and swoon before making this with it:

The brown-and-black one at the top is so freaky-gorgeous that I came thisclose to wrapping it in my leather jacket and running out the front door with it before Rick could catch me. He wants that one, too, and they’ll probably keep her. He doesn’t have a name for her yet but assured me the name would “reveal” itself. He’s kind of a cat whisperer.
(In case you worry - SIL is a high-level medical professional and thus…will be able to personally amputate Rick’s finger if the bite gets infected.)
