What to do: events and activities
1 - Enjoy the 'Walk of Lights
All the central streets of the city are adorned with characteristic illuminations. But the best part is that you can take a walk from Calle Goya to Plaza Mayor, crossing Gran Via (a crossroads full of shops, theatres, etc.) and admiring some iconic places such as Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Cibeles and Puerta del Sol. Once at Plaza Mayor you can visit the most beautiful Christmas market in Madrid.
2 - Visit Madrid's Christmas markets and handicrafts fair
Even though Madrid's Christmas markets are not exactly like those in Central European countries, they are still particularly fun places to explore. There are several of them all over the city, but as already mentioned, the biggest one is in Plaza Mayor(get directions). It is called Mercado de Navidad and is full of Christmas decorations, souvenirs and other products perfect for small gifts (scarves and jewellery). Other markets and fairs of interest are:
